Zlatan potentially back on the shelf again after reaggrevating heel injury
Just when we thought he’d gotten over the heel injury which the Swedish team doctor described as “inexplicable” a month ago, it has returned.
Ibrahimovic scored in his first start and full 90 since late September – a 1-1 draw for his country Sweden against Montenegro in Euro 2016 qualifying – but it may have come at a price.
According to Ligue1.com, the Swedish Federation has announced Zlatan will not take any unnecessary risks in the friendly against France Tuesday night, which makes plenty of sense and sounds innocuous enough on its own. However, now quality Ligue 1 reporter Jonathan Johnson is calling Zlatan a “doubt” for the upcoming PSG match against Metz after the end of the international break, throwing everything into question again.
This heel injury has been incredibly bothersome for the electric Swedish striker. There were reports towards the end of October that said it might eventually require surgery, and medical scans were struggling to diagnose the problem. “There are no major signs of inflammation, but he feels pain,” said Swedish doctor Leif Sward said about a month ago. “We don’t want the injury to get worse, an Achilles tendon can snap. Zlatan is getting better and better, but he won’t play with a painkilling injection.”
Paris Saint-Germain have been hammered with injuries this international break, which only intensifies their ongoing health issues that has left manager Laurent Blanc unable to select his full first-team squad for essentially the entire season.
French midfielder Blaise Matuidi was hit with news he would need hand surgery at the beginning of the international break, and will be out for a few weeks. Meanwhile, Marco Verratti has aggravated an adductor problem which has left him unable to complete the full 90 minutes in any of his last three Ligue 1 appearances. He has missed out on all Italian commitments this break and is reportedly out for another week or two.
