Two Clubs Lead The Race For Dortmund's Marco Reus
Chelsea and Real Madrid are set to go head-to-head in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Marco
Reus, according to Spanish paper Marca.
The German winger has been heavily linked with a move away from the German side during the transfer window but after the revelation that Reus will be available for only £19.7million next summer, clubs have held off in hopes of landing him next year.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester City were all monitoring the situation, but it seems like the battle to lure the 25-year-old has come down to only Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Sources from Spain suggest that the European champions have good relations with Reus’ agents – who also happen represent Toni Kroos’ – and are keen to agree personal terms to take the midfielder for the release clause price next summer.
However Madrid will need to fend off the strong interest from Premier League leaders Chelsea, as the Blues are prepared to offer a lucrative contract worth £7.8million-a-year to lure the former Borussia Mönchengladbach star to Stamford Bridge.
Current employers Dortmund are however still keen to keep their prized asset, but with contract negotiations breaking down the Bundesliga outfit may have to consider significantly higher January offers to avoid losing him for only £20million in the summer.
