Angel Di Maria reveals the truth about why he joined Man United and not PSG last summer
The Argentine completed a record £59.7million move to Old Trafford ahead of this season, but
confirms he was close to playing in France instead
Angel Di Maria has claimed only a "problem of money" stopped his transfer to PSG last summer - and did not rule out a move to the French capital in the future.
After his £59.7m transfer to Manchester United, PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi said that he had wanted to move to Paris but the price was "too expensive". And the Qatari denied the deal fell through because of Financial Fair Play.
But the Argentine told French TV's Telefoot this morning: "Going to Paris would have been a good experience.
"I think it was a problem of money. They could not buy any players and I think that is the main reason I did not go to Paris. To play in a French club is something that would please a lot of players but today I play in the Premier League. But you never know.
"Could I join PSG in the future? Yes maybe. I am still young. In football, there is a lot of movement and I don't know how things will end up."
And Di Maria said the Old Trafford club's persistence paid off before becoming the most expensive player to join a Premier League club.
"At the time, there were a lot of clubs interested," he recalled. "There were a lot of clubs who wanted to have me. They came and went but Manchester appeared and they never went away and because they really wanted me, I went there. That is how it happened."
